Troubleshooting Common Garage Door Opener Problems

Not many appliances at home get as much worked as garage door openers. They generally deliver many years of hassle free service. But when they break down, don’t just simply assume they need replacement. You can actually make various inexpensive repairs to get them functioning normally. Some of these repair solutions are mentioned below, read on:

1. In case your opener rises, but fails to close the door, chances are your safety beam sensor is misaligned, unplugged or faulty.
2. If your opener is operating normally with remote control, but fails to operate by the wall switch then there’s either a loose connection at the switch or a short in the wiring.
3. If your remote control suddenly stops working, it may simply be because of weak batteries, a dead transmitter or antenna wire not completely exposed.
4. In case your opener is operating properly, but the door refuses to open, the problem may lie with the old and worn-out chain drive sprocket or the door suddenly disengaging from the door operator.
5. Is your opener operating itself – look out for – a short in your wall switch, faulty transmitter or even a stray signal.
6. If your remote control only operates from a distance less than 25 feet from the opener, probably the remote is running on a weak battery or there is insufficient signal.
7. If your door doesn't open or close completely or if it reverses while closing then your door is generally obstructed.
